At Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative, we are committed to delivering electricity that is reliable, affordable, and environmentally responsible. Our power supply originates from two trusted generation and transmission cooperatives: Corn Belt Power Cooperative in Humboldt, Iowa, and Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck, North Dakota. Together, they provide a balanced and sustainable energy mix that includes coal, nuclear, hydroelectric, landfill gas, wind, natural gas, and oil.
Nearly 58% of the electricity used by RVEC members is generated from emission- and carbon-free resources, significantly reducing our environmental impact while maintaining high reliability. This fuel diversity is a key strength of our cooperative. It helps us move toward a more sustainable power supply, reduces exposure to future emissions regulations, and minimizes the need for costly upgrades or absences, ultimately keeping costs manageable for our member-owners.
Diversity in energy sources also enhances system reliability, ensuring that power remains available even during extreme weather events or supply disruptions. RVEC and our power partners continue to invest in renewable energy development and new technologies that support Iowa’s leadership in clean energy.
Please note that all or some of the renewable energy credits (RECs) associated with this generation may have been sold or may be sold in the future to other parties or may be retained for compliance with future regulatory requirements.
