Shine the Light on Community Volunteers
At Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative (RVEC), we believe in the power of community. That’s why we’re proud to support the statewide Shine the Light contest—an opportunity to recognize the incredible volunteers who make a difference in the places we call home.
Nominate a Local Volunteer
From June 1 to June 30, RVEC member-owners and employees can nominate someone who is making a positive impact in their community through volunteer work.
Whether it’s a friend, neighbor, or family member, this is your chance to honor those who dedicate their time and energy to helping others.

Make an Impact
Sponsored by Iowa’s Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives, the Shine the Light contest will select three exceptional volunteers from across the state. Each winner will receive a $3,000 donation to the local charity or nonprofit organization of their choice.
Who Can Be Nominated?
- Any individual making a positive impact through volunteer work
- The nominee does not have to be an RVEC member
- Youth (under 18) may be nominated with parent or guardian consent
- Previous non-winning nominees may be nominated again
Why It Matters
Each year, we are inspired by the stories of individuals who go above and beyond to serve others. From organizing community events to supporting local causes, these volunteers embody the cooperative spirit of “Concern for Community.”
Contest Timeline
- Nominations Open: June 1
- Nominations Close: June 30
- Winners Announced: September
Winners will be featured in Iowa Electric Cooperative Living magazine and highlighted on social media.
Growing Participation Across Iowa
The Shine the Light contest continues to grow each year, with strong participation from electric cooperative members across the state:
- 2025: 88 entries from 27 co-ops
- 2024: 75 entries from 24 co-ops
- 2023: 126 entries from 25 co-ops
- 2022: 68 entries from 26 co-ops
- 2021: 39 entries from 19 co-ops
