You’re More Than a Customer — You’re an Owner

Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative (RVEC) is a member-owned, not-for-profit electric utility. That means we exist to serve our members, not to make profits for shareholders.

When you receive electricity from RVEC, you become a member-owner. You’re part of a local cooperative, with an authentic voice in how it's operated.

As a member-owner, you benefit in several important ways:

Affordable energy – Our rates are based on actual costs, not profit margins. This helps keep your electricity reliable, affordable, and fair.
Local reinvestment – Any money left over after expenses (called margins) is reinvested in our system or returned to members as capital credits.
Energy-saving tools – RVEC offers rebates and advice on energy-efficient solutions, including heat pumps, lighting, water heaters, and more.
Trusted service – Our employees live and work in the communities we serve. You can count on personal service from people who know you.

Every member has one vote in our democratic process.

You elect the RVEC Board of Directors, who represent your interests and help guide the cooperative’s direction.
Board members are also members, just like you. They serve without salary, receiving only a per diem and reimbursement for expenses.
The board hires a CEO to manage day-to-day operations in the best interest of the membership.

Our Annual Meeting is held each September, where vital decisions are shared, and members have the opportunity to participate.

As a cooperative, RVEC is:

Built and led locally – We belong to and are governed by the communities we serve.
Democratic – You elect the board, and any member can run for a seat.
Responsive – We adapt quickly to your needs because we answer to you, not investors.
