Move Over or Slow Down

Help Keep Iowa’s Roads Safe

At Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative (RVEC), safety is our top priority—for our employees, our member-owners, and everyone traveling Iowa’s roads. Our lineworkers and crews often work just feet away from passing traffic in hazardous conditions. You can help protect them.

We proudly support Iowa’s Move Over or Slow Down law, and we encourage all motorists to take action when approaching vehicles stopped on the roadside with flashing lights.

What You Need to Do

When you see a vehicle on the side of the road with flashing lights activated:

  • Move over to the next lane when possible
  • If you cannot move over, slow down significantly
  • Stay alert and give crews plenty of space to work safely

This law applies to ALL vehicles, including:

  • Utility trucks
  • Emergency vehicles
  • Tow trucks
  • Passenger vehicles with hazard lights

Why It Matters

Working alongside roadways is one of the most dangerous parts of our job. A moment of caution from you can prevent serious injuries—or even save a life. Please give our crews the space they need to do their jobs safely.

Know the Law

Failing to move over or slow down is not only dangerous, but it’s also against the law. Violations can result in:

  • Traffic citations
  • Fines
  • Possible loss of your driver’s license
